With Godzilla FAQ still currently the best-selling Godzilla book on God's green earth (ranked #4 on Amazon in the Fantasy History & Criticism genre), the big lizard and myself remain on very friendly terms. So friendly, in fact, that I've become a Godzilla groupie of sorts, following the monster wherever he may roam. Lately, that means I've become a repeat customer at the venerable Strand Theater, the pearl of Connecticut's Saugatuck Valley, in the scenic town of Seymour.
For a few years now, John Paul Marini of the Strand has been presenting all sorts of creature features, B-movies and assorted cult classics to the Strand, taking a page from my old Bedlam at the Bijou series in downtown Bridgeport (with my blessing, natch.) And starting last year, he kicked off what has become a series of Godzilla screenings that have taken the area by storm. He's also been kind enough to give away copies of my book among the prizes fans can win throughout the evening. It goes without saying that I've made attending these screenings a major priority!
And now, with Godzilla vs. Kong, the latest installment in Legendary Pictures kaiju-verse franchise, set to hit theaters later this year, John has made the sound decision to show the original clash of the titans, 1962's King Kong vs. Godzilla, at the Strand next. It all goes down Saturday, March 7, and I will be proudly on-hand, along with my first-born son, to take in the unforgettable giant monster throw-down for the 8,000th time, with pleasure.
If you're in the general vicinity and have never seen this film, or maybe want to see it for the first time on the big screen, get yourself down to the Strand. It's a great piece of nostalgia and fun for the entire family. It'll prepare you for the new movie coming out. Plus, there's a chance you may win a copy of Godzilla FAQ signed by yours truly. In any event, if you do make it down, make sure to come over and introduce yourself! Unlike Godzilla and King Kong, I don't bite.
